The Tenth Day of Health & Wellness
On the 10th day of Christmas my true love gave to me... a big juicy steak. Or for my vegan friends... some fava beans and a nice chianti... 😂❤
What I mean to say is... Protein!!!
Seriously though, I have to divert certain vegan questions to my expert friends, who are my go-to's on living the vegan life.
I could be a vegetarian, if push came to shove, but I'm pretty much a confirmed omnivore. I am that one weird friend who doesn't crave chocolate or potato chips or candies or cookies. No, no. In that regard I am not my mother's daughter. No, I crave meat protein. *Hello, my name is Tara and I have been known to chow down on a whole rotisserie chicken in my car on the way home from the grocery store or post workout.*
That being said, I still try to go meatless once or twice a week and I eat red meat maybe once a week, probably less. Maybe twice month...
In my studies on nutrition and coaching we are advised to promote an approach that includes all parts of the current food guide. However, the emphasis on meat protein or animal proteins and dairy is much less than it used to be. The aim is to promote eating more vegetables and legumes etc.
The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein is 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. 😊 I'll give you a moment to do the math...
